What Is The Setting Up Scheme?

The South East Setting Up Scheme was established as a pilot initiative by the former Southern Arts, to help recently graduated or emerging artists, craftspeople and designers set up in business by providing them with grants, workspace and training in the early stages of their career.

In its first two years, the Setting Up Scheme has supported eight artists and makers working in a range of media in placements with arts organisations and individual practitioners. The 'host' organisations provide workspace, practical support and guidance and, where possible, exhibition or employment opportunities (such as running workshops, exhibition installation or invigilation.) The Scheme also provides support, training and professional development opportunities, helping the artists and makers to establish themselves as creative practitioners.

The Setting Up Scheme is supported by Arts Council England South East.
