Birgitte Haahr Lund gained an MA in Visual Communication and illustration
from the Danish Design School (2002) and an MA in Fine Art from
Central St Martin’s College of Art & Design in London (2005).
"I am interested in mixing up the boundaries between art and design
and find that the combination of the two creates an interesting
dimension" says Birgitte. "Part of my education involved the use
of traditional printmaking techniques and I did a three month residency
in a printmaking studio in Reykjavik. Although I have worked a lot
with traditional printmaking I see my digital prints as an important
improvement and I wish to continue involving this in my work".
My art is autobiographical in a sort of non autobiographical way.
I often attach my art ideas to a design surface which I find interesting
because my work in this way reflects and refers somewhere beyond
myself. I get attracted to objects randomly but nothing is, or can
be, entirely coincidental and my job as an artist is to make some
kind of sense out of the images and the objects in my mind, the
personal references I have sort of gets wrapped up with new ideas
and new found objects and they then turn themselves into art. It
is a mission I am on. I am a detective of my own life.
