Shane-Paul
Shane is currently working on a series of site
specific sculptures in Basingstoke, in conjunction with the Give it
a Go millennium awards. The twenty 8 feet high structures are ribbons
of concrete twisting around willow branches, giving the impression
that the willow is supporting the concrete (each ribbon of concrete
will weigh a quarter of a tonne).
“I am a ceramicist first and foremost. I use all types of ceramics – clay, concrete and fibre glass. My ceramics are placed next to natural objects such as sticks and stones as a reminder of where the ceramic originally came from before I got my hands on it. Experimenting with the clay is something I really enjoy. Simply the touch and feel of the stuff is electric. But when you can tame it to do things that it shouldn't do - this is what makes me a potter.” Host Organisation: Viables Craft Centre, Basingstoke |
